What specific challenge or problem does this idea solve? |
A lot of us have adult dancers, so it is weird for one of them to be their own "parent" in the system. There are also families where the primary account holder may have a different relationship to each family member - for example, in one of my accounts, the primary account holder is a student, the mom of two additional students, and the wife of a student - so this would allow us to have clear records of how each student is connected to the contact. |
How should this work? |
Make the person currently labeled "parent" the "primary account holder", and then have a check or text box to state their relationship to the student. For all additional contacts in the family, have a check box to designate "parent", "legal guardian", "self", "other" with a text field, or "none" for each dancer in the family (important since blended families or families with foster children may have different people who need to be kept in the loop for each student). |
Who will benefit (Admins, Staff, Students)? |
Admins and staff will benefit from clear labeling of how each person is connected to the dancer. Parents in blended families will benefit by having everyone get the information they need for their own children, but not the information for other members of the family. This can be especially helpful when children have different parents, or if there is a foster care situation where the parents or a case worker need to be kept in the loop (but don't need information about other students in the family). |
How will this change impact your daily tasks or overall experience? |
This will make the most difference in knowing that emails are going to the correct people for each dancer. If the relationship field can be connected to contact information in class manager and any reports being pulled, it will also help so we know who we are calling in an emergency situation and how they are connected to the student. |
