I appreciate that the system offers the option to specify a student's pronouns and hide the gender field if it's not relevant to the class. For my program, I've also added a custom field for preferred name; however, the system should already have this as a standard field with the option to use it instead of the First Name field.
What specific challenge or problem does this idea solve? |
The system doesn't take into account that while some people who identify as a different gender than they were born as do legally change their name, others (especially minors) don't legally change their name but start using a "preferred name". In the event of an emergency, it is essential to know a person's legal name, not just their preferred nickname. |
How should this work? |
The First Name field should be called First Legal Name, with the option to enter the name by which they prefer to be called in a Preferred Name field. The Preferred Name field is what should appear on class lists and roll sheets, with access to the legal name if it is required. |
Who will benefit (Admins, Staff, Students)? |
Everyone |
How will this change impact your daily tasks or overall experience? |
It will demonstrate progressiveness and inclusivity for the organization. |
There is already a preferred name section on a student's page and it will put both legal and preferred names on the roll sheet! Please contact SP Support for more help with this!
