Make "Check" options in student view actual filters

In the main student view there are all these "Check" options, Check All | Uncheck All | Check All with Classes | Check All without Classes | Check All with a Balance | More...
I wish that instead of just selecting those students who meet the criteria set it would actually filter the view so that once seleceted you were only looking at those students in the list.
As it is, this page has an unmanagable amount of data because regardless of what you select - all the records remain in the view.
